Why purchase Travel Insurance?
Travel insurance provides cover for the unexpected events that may disrupt your
travel arrangements. Whilst, medical and ancillary expenses are not covered by
Domestic travel insurance (these are often covered by Medicare or your private
health fund), a comprehensive domestic travel insurance policy should include
cover for forfeited prepaid travel arrangements, additional expenses incurred as
a result of an illness or injury or delays or alterations in the itinerary
beyond the control of the carrier (in this case our coach company) and the loss,
theft or damage of luggage. Make sure to check the Product Disclosure Statement
& Policy Wording of any travel insurance you purchase to ensure it provides
comprehensive cover.
If you have not already purchased travel insurance, we can provide Suresave
Travel Insurance. The price for comprehensive travel insurance varies based on
the length of your trip. Please call us for a quote.
Know what you are getting with your Suresave Travel Insurance. Please read the
Suresave travel insurance Product Disclosure Statement and Policy Wording for
details of the full terms and conditions of your policy.
The following is just a summary of some common questions that we have been asked
about travel insurance. If you have a specific question, please contact us.
When should I apply for cover?
As our cancellation fee starts at $50 per person, apply for cover as soon as you
pay your deposit. In any case, you should definitely take out insurance as soon
as you have less than 80 days before your trip departs, as this will ensure that
all paperwork is completed 60 days prior to the tour departing when cancellation
fees become higher. It is better to be too early than too late.
What is the Excess?
If you do have to claim on your travel insurance policy, there will be an excess
per claim. (No excess-Domestic travel) This means that if your claim is
successful, Travellers Assistance will reimburse you for the full cost of your
loss, less the excess (it works just like car insurance). The excess amount can
be removed on the International policies by paying an additional premium.
Do I have to pay extra if I am over 70 years?
Yes, the premiums do increase for travellers over 70 years of age. An extra
premium may also apply to cover some Pre Existing medical conditions.
Is Insurance Cover Automatic if I am over 70?
Yes, however travellers 81 years and over must have a mature age medical form
completed by their doctor and receive approval before a policy can be issued.
What is an Existing Medical Condition?
An existing medical condition is:
a. An ongoing medical or dental condition of which you are aware, or related
complication you have, or the symptoms of which you are aware;

If you or any member of your travelling party have an existing medical condition
you require cover for, you must apply to Mondial. Please note claims arising out
of or exacerbated by existing medical conditions are not claimable unless you
have applied for cover and it has been approved by Mondial and you have met any
special terms imposed ie paid any additional amounts. Remember, even if your
existing medical condition is not approved for cover, Mondial may still offer
you a policy for claims unrelated to your existing medical conditions.
What about if one of my family is ill, and I am worried about having to
cancel my tour to look after them?
You are only covered for claims which arise from a Pre-existing Medical
Condition suffered by a relative that is hospitalised or dies in Australia after
the policy is issued and at the time of the policy issue you were unaware of the
likelihood of such hospitalisation or death. The most we will pay in respect of
all claims under all sections of the policy is $2000 for a Single Plan and $4000
for a Family Plan.
How do I fill in my Travellers Medical Appraisal Form?
If your condition is not one of the conditions listed above that are covered
automatically then you can complete a Medical Declaration form for assessment.
All Travellers 81 years and over must have this form completed by their Doctor.
How will Mondial Assistance Assess my Existing Medical Condition?
Mondial Assistance will assess your medical condition based on a number of
factors like the nature of your condition and the type of trip you intend to
undertake. If you are assessed for existing medical conditions, there are three
possible outcomes;
a) Mondial Assistance may provide cover for Existing Medical Conditions, either
in full or on a restricted basis. A Travellers Appraisal Number will be issued
and you will be advised of any additional amount payable, or
b) Mondial Assistance will advise you that they are unable to insure some or all
of your Existing Medical Conditions, or
c) Mondial Assistance may offer altered terms and conditions to the policy, such
as a higher excess on claims.
If my or my partners existing medical condition attracts a loading, do we
have to pay to cover both of us, even if only one of us has the existing medical
condition?
If there is only one person with an existing medical condition, you only need to
pay one loading. This amount will cover both of you if one of you is unable to
complete a tour as a result of an existing medical condition.
